The Gauntlet

take up the gauntlet, to accept a challenge to fight

A New Kayak Adventure

Day 1: buy kayaks

Day 2: get up at 5:30 and go kayaking on Hauser Lake

Day 3: get up at 5:30 and go kayaking on Hauser Lake

Later that same ... day decide that you are ready for the gauntlet...

Craig and I (mostly Craig) decided we were ready for an adventure (whats wrong with the old one...it is very peaceful...idk), with little preparations and a sketchy view with google maps, we decided to go white water kayaking. I have to admit I was a little nervous as it looked like there was a pretty good drop off along the way...wait... I still have 5 chicklets to raise. We put our kayaks in at Corbin Park and my job was to follow Craig so if anything went wrong maybe I could do something different. Stomachs tight we made it through the first set of rapids, then 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and then the 5th set really filled up our boats...but it was still fun and not so scary.

1 week later: Craig found out that you can actually go up a little higher and put in at Mcguire, which gives you another set of rapids. So a few trips to black sheep and we have mini skirts for our kayaks to help keep the water out and we are ready. This set of rapids is a wee bit more intense. Not only are the rapids stronger and faster but the path is narrow and the water would like to shove right into the rocks...yep I came within inches of hitting them...but it was still fun. Even with a mini skirt, Craig had to empty his boat before we continued on. He takes on more water than me, as I am a little lighter.

Technical difficulties...

This blog doesn't always do what I want...ugh. So stretch your imagination and pretend like the pictures and words are all lining up correctly.
